Bob Ainsworth MP concerned about the state of school building

Bob Ainsworth – Member of Parliament for Coventry North East – along with Councillors Hazel Sweet, Faye Abbott and Lynnette Kelly met Head Teacher and Governors of Richard Lee Primary School on Friday 11th February to discuss the condition of the school building.

The school was due to be rebuilt as a consequence of its age, poor state of disrepair and the fact that it did not meet the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act. However, due to Government cuts in public spending this has not happened and does not seem likely to happen in the near future.

This has left the school with a significant list of repairs that urgently need to be carried out, but insufficient funds with which to do so.

Concerns over the condition of the school building have prompted parents to write to Bob and local Councillors to ask for assistance.

Bob said:

“I fully understand parents concerns. I visited Richard Lee School not so long ago and saw for myself the poor condition of the building.

“The primary concern of both teachers and parents is understandably the safety and wellbeing of the children. They believe that their children should be educated in a building that is fit for purpose and I don’t think that is too much to ask.

“For my part, I will do whatever I can to help.”
